What review means

Section oversight and a personal page review tell you different things about the content you are reading.

Section oversight
A named board member is responsible for a subject area and oversees its content over time. Assignment to that section does not mean the member has personally reviewed every page.
A personal page review
When an expert has personally reviewed a specific page, we mark it “Reviewed” and show the date. Look for that label when checking whether an individual review has taken place.

How content is checked

Writing and source checks take place before publication. Board oversight continues over time. Read the full editorial policy.

  1. Written to a standard

Each subject area has a written standard covering scope, required citations, tone, and limits. Writers use plain language that respects the reader.

  2. Checked against sources

Before publication, an automated check compares factual claims with an approved source list. Claims that cannot be matched are flagged for a human to resolve.

  3. Overseen over time

The board member responsible for the section reads pages, flags corrections, and adds relevant expertise as the content develops. A personal page review is identified separately by the “Reviewed” label and date.

Who checks the reviewers?

A member's responsibility should match their expertise. Profiles list members' reported qualifications; completed credential and licensure checks are identified on individual profiles.

  • Relevant qualifications

Profiles list the member's reported degrees, board certifications and licensure. A completed credential or licensure check is identified on the individual profile.

  • Work within their expertise

Members oversee subject areas matched to their background and training. Their profiles explain the scope of that responsibility.

  • A public record of responsibility

Profiles identify the member, the content they oversee, and the specific pages they have reviewed.

  • Continuing oversight

Members revisit their sections as evidence and best practice change.

The scope of oversight

The board's responsibilities span tests, tools, guides, concepts, careers, degrees, and coverage of AI in mental health.

The page count records assignment to a named reviewer. It does not count completed personal page reviews. The figures describe different aspects of the site and should not be added together.

The sources behind the checks

Factual claims are checked against an approved source list. It includes the following kinds of sources.

  • Peer-reviewed research

Studies and reviews published in scientific and medical journals.

  • Government and public health data

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the CDC, and other government health sources.

  • Professional bodies and clinical references

The American Psychological Association, the American Psychiatric Association, and established clinical references such as the Mayo Clinic and the NHS.
