Find a Psychologist
Psychology.com lists 15 licensed psychologists across 11 states. Each profile shows the license held and when we checked it with the state board, what the psychologist works with, fees where listed, and how to reach them.
A psychologist holds a doctorate (a PhD or PsyD) and a state psychologist license. That training covers psychological assessment and testing as well as therapy, which is why people looking for an ADHD, autism or learning evaluation are usually looking for a psychologist rather than a counselor. Everyone on this page is listed under a psychologist license; counselors and social workers who also hold a PhD are in the main directory, not here.
Use this page when you want the assessment side as well as the talking side: a formal evaluation, a written report for work or school, or a second opinion on a diagnosis. If you mainly want weekly therapy, the full directory gives you more choice.

What a Psychologist Can Do That a Counselor Cannot
Psychologists administer and interpret standardized tests: cognitive and IQ testing, ADHD and autism evaluations, learning disability assessments, personality measures and neuropsychological batteries. They write the reports that schools, employers, courts and disability programs ask for, and they can give a formal diagnosis where state law allows. Counselors, social workers and marriage and family therapists provide therapy and can screen for a condition, but most states reserve psychological testing for psychologists. If a free screen on this site pointed you somewhere, a psychologist is the person who can confirm or rule it out.
How We Check a Psychologist's License
Every member profile is matched to the federal NPI Registry before it goes live, which confirms the person and the licensed profession. Where the state psychology board offers a public lookup, we check the license number there too and date the check on the profile, with a link to the board so you can repeat it. A profile whose board check is pending carries the registry match only. Read how the checks work on the verification page.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find a psychologist near me?
Start with the state list on this page. Psychologists are licensed by state, and a psychologist licensed where you live can see you in person or by video. Open a profile to see the city, the license line with the date we checked it, and the session formats offered, then contact the psychologist directly. Psychology.com lists 15 licensed psychologists today, and this page grows as more join.
What is the difference between a psychologist and a therapist?
Therapist is the general word for a licensed mental health professional: counselors (LPC, LMHC), clinical social workers (LCSW), marriage and family therapists (LMFT) and psychologists all provide therapy. A psychologist also holds a doctorate (a PhD or PsyD) and a state psychologist license, and is trained in psychological testing and assessment. For weekly talk therapy the difference matters less than fit; for a formal evaluation or a written report it matters a great deal.
Can a psychologist prescribe medication?
In most states, no. Medication is prescribed by a psychiatrist, a psychiatric nurse practitioner or a primary care doctor, and psychologists usually coordinate with one of them. A small number of states allow psychologists with extra training to prescribe; ask the psychologist directly if that matters to you.
How much does a psychologist cost?
Fees vary by region and by service. A psychological assessment with a written report costs more than a therapy session because it takes more hours, including scoring and the feedback appointment. Profiles on Psychology.com show the fee range where the psychologist has listed one and whether a sliding scale is offered. Ask for the total cost of an evaluation before you book, including the report.
